Description
Appearance & Flavor Profile
1. Visual Appearance
● Cake Surface: The cake is round and full, with moderate compression. The surface is densely covered with golden tips, with a reddish-brown oily sheen, resembling a piece of golden brocade, providing a strong visual impact.
● Liquor Color: After brewing, the tea liquor is Bordeaux red, thick and clear, leaving a noticeable coating on the cup. The texture is rich like red wine, with a natural floral and fruity aroma.
- Taste Notes
● Aroma: A rich mingling of aged aroma (Chen Yun) and woody fragrance, accompanied by a faint glutinous aroma (similar to cooked grains), without any harsh or off-putting smells.
● Texture: Extremely smooth and soft on the palate, almost without any bitterness.
● Aftertaste: The tea leaves a slight sweetness (hui gan) in the mouth; the throat feels warm and comfortable, leaving a relaxing sensation after drinking.
Simple Brewing Guide:
Follow the steps below to master the brewing method.
1. Recommended Equipment (Tea Utensils): It is recommended to use a Yixing clay teapot (good heat retention, enhances tea fragrance) or a gaiwan.
2. Water Temperature: Use boiling water at 100°C.
3. Rinsing the Tea: For ripe tea, the first infusion is usually for ‘rinsing’ and ‘awakening’ the tea leaves. Pour water quickly and discard within 5 seconds. This can remove any storage odors and release the tea aroma.
4. Brewing:
○ First three infusions: Quick brewing (5-10 seconds) to enjoy the aroma and color of the tea.
○ Subsequent infusions: You can slightly extend the steeping time (15-30 seconds). The longer the brew, the sweeter and smoother the tea.
