There are three treasures in tea leaves.
Anti-cancer, refreshing, enhancing memory
History has flowed for thousands of years in a teacup. The Chinese have never regarded tea simply as a beverage, but as a ‘tea medicine’ beneficial to health. As early as the Tang Dynasty, it was said that ‘tea is a cure for all ailments,’ and later generations highly admired this view. Modern research has unveiled the mysteries of tea leaves and discovered the ‘three great treasures.’

First treasure, tea tannins fight cancer
The bitterness and astringency in tea come from tea tannins (tea polyphenols). They account for 40%–60% of the soluble components of tea. Tea tannins are the “primary contributor” in tea. First, they have antioxidant properties and can boost immunity, helping to prevent many cancers, including lung cancer, esophageal cancer, liver cancer, and colon cancer. Second, tea tannins can regulate blood lipids and aid in weight loss and fat reduction. Third, tea tannins can enhance the activity of microvessels and increase the body’s absorption of nutrients. Finally, tea tannins also help lower blood sugar and prevent damage caused by smoking.

The second treasure, caffeine for alertness
Research has found that 8%–10% of the soluble components in tea are caffeine. Caffeine acts as a diuretic, accelerating the elimination of waste from the body, and also stimulates the central nervous system, helping to refresh and awaken the mind. Additionally, it can boost metabolism and promote muscle contraction. However, the longer tea is brewed, the more caffeine is released. People who have trouble sleeping, are emotionally sensitive, or are pregnant should consume it sparingly.

The third treasure, L-theanine for strong memory
Theanine is a unique free amino acid found in tea leaves. It is responsible for the refreshing and sweet taste of tea. Theanine is most abundant in fresh tea and decreases during fermentation. Research has found that theanine can significantly promote the release of dopamine in the brain, enhancing the physiological activity of dopamine in the brain. Therefore, it can make people feel mentally pleasant, while also improving memory and enhancing learning ability. In addition, theanine also has effects such as lowering blood pressure, calming emotions, and relieving physical and mental fatigue.
